YIULIAN DOCKYARDS (SHEKOU) LTD. EXPANDS.
YIULIAN DOCKYARDS LTD., a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, is headquarted in Shenzhen, China and is engaged in the ship-repair industry.
YIULIAN DOCKYARDS LTD. was founded in 1964 and currently operates three (3) shipyards - Hong Kong, Shekou and Zhangzhou. The company owns five (5) floating docks ranging from 30,000dwt to 180,000dwt.
With the development of marine industry as well as meeting the increased demand of ship-repair, The China Merchants Group invested RMB 2.4 billion to move Shekou Yiulian to a new location on Mazhou Island (as shown left) in the Pearl River delta. The capacity will be significantly increased by the investment being made in the new facilities that will begin production in the middle of 2007. This includes two new VLCC dry docks, measuring 400m x 83m and 360m x 67m as well as ship repair quays of 3010m in length overall. It will be the largest ship repair yard in China by that time.
Not only is Yiulian expanding their yard, there is also discussions about expanding their market in two ways:
They are looking to market heavy container ship trades in their region, and expand into technical capacity for the offshore industry. Yiulian has shown that not only do they have the capacity, they also deliver quality product to support important sectors.
