Celebrity Cruise Lines's Zenith at DETYENS SHIPYARDS for drydocking
Announcing Celebrity Cruise Lines completion of their first drydocking with Detyens Shipyards, Inc.(DSI). Celebrity Cruise Lines’ Zenith docked at the Charleston, South Carolina facility from October 24, 2005 thru November 3, 2005. DSI’s Project Manager, Tim Sanford, stated: “It was a short time frame for their availability, everyone involved with the project did an excellent job and they should all be commended.”
The scope of work completed on the Zenith included: regular drydocking maintenance along with sea valve renewals, blade seals and polishing, anchor chains, bow and stern thruster seals, overhauling of the bow thruster, the dismantling and overhauling of the stabilizers, the application of the silicon base AF coatings, the demolition & installation of a new hot well, a new shaft & bushing for the port rudder fin.
Nikolaos Doulis, with Celebrity Cruise Lines Technical Department & the Port Engineer during the drydocking, said: “Everybody that was involved in the drydocking of the Zenith was very motivated, friendly & more than welcome to accommodate all our needs. The service we received from the shipyard not only met, but far exceeded my expectations.”
Not only did Detyens Shipyards, Inc.(DSI) complete the drydocking’s of the Carnival Fascination and the Celebrity Zenith, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has just completed the drydocking of the Empress of the Seas, as well.
The intense work scope was carried out in only 7 days. DSI was able to coat 27,000sqft. of near white on the bottom and vertical sides, sweep blasting 34,095sqft., and spot blasting 11,365sqft. This was all done by utilizing 8 (40,000) PSI guns, 5 hydro cats & 2 ML 2000’s.
DSI also renewed 6 exhaust stack pipes, overhauled the bow thrusters, repair & overhauled the fin stabilizers, offloaded all the construction debris, & loaded 50 containers of interior renovation materials.
This was Detyens Shipyards, Inc. second project with RCI’s group of companies, having completed repairs to the Celebrity Zenith in 2005.
